ABUJA – The Obidient Movement has dismissed reports of wrongdoing leveled against Peter Obi, (Labour Party candidate in the 2023 general election), in the conduct of LP primary election for the Saturday governorship poll in Edo State.

The movement’s reaction followed accusations that the former Anambra State Governor who has avidly advocated for balance in zoning political power in the country, may have abandoned his conviction in favour of the Labour Party candidate, Olumide Akpata.

But National Coordinator for the Obidient Movement, Tanko Yunusa, in a statement on Thursday, argued that the party’s governorship primary in the state was “conducted transparently, overseen by an Edo indigene from Edo Central. Only Edo people voted, and they chose Olumide Akpata as their preferred candidate.”

He described Akpata who emerged the party’s choice at the exercise as the best, noting that “Nigeria needs its best and brightest, and Olumide Akpata is exactly that!”

Dr Yunusa explained the candidate’s proven track record, including his time as President of the Nigerian Bar Association.

According to the National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, the Labour Party candidate would champion the rule of law and advocate for the security of the people

“Blaming Peter Obi or anyone else is misguided. This election is about youthful energy, competence, and leadership. Olumide Akpata embodies all of these qualities.

“With Alhaji Kadiri Asamah, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, by his side, they form a formidable team committed to upholding justice and ensuring the safety and well-being of Edo State. Olumide’s leadership and his vision for a better Edo make him the ideal choice for governor.

“Olumide Akpata has the experience, expertise, and passion to drive positive change in Edo State. As Obidients, let’s rally behind him in his bid for governor!

Trust me, as the National Coordinator of the Obidients Movement, Olumide Akpata is the right choice. He will listen to the youth and champion progress,” the statement concluded.
