Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State announced on Wednesday his intention to conduct town hall meetings across various local government areas in the state as part of his administration’s commitment to connect with the community.

The Governor outlined plans to allocate a minimum of N1 billion for road construction in each local government area as part of the 2024 budget, ensuring that all regions benefit from significant infrastructure development.

During a courtesy visit from the State Executive of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), led by Rev. Lucky Osagbakhoe, Governor Oborevwori expressed his appreciation for their visit, highlighting the strong collaboration between the government and faith-based organizations in Delta State.

He commended religious leaders for their unwavering support and prayers, noting, “The dedication of the Church has been a stabilizing influence on the government of Delta State.”

In response to calls for town hall gatherings, the Governor stated, “We recognize the importance of engaging with our local communities and are dedicated to showcasing the numerous projects underway.

Each local government will see at least N1 billion allocated to road construction in our upcoming budget.”

Addressing concerns regarding the rising cost of living, Oborevwori highlighted recent empowerment initiatives, including the distribution of MORE grants to 5,000 individuals and agricultural inputs to over 6,000 residents in recent weeks.

“The challenges we currently face are not unique to Delta State. However, when we compare our efforts with those of other states, it’s clear we are committed to making a significant impact,” he remarked, referencing the recent protests against poor governance to emphasize the necessity of dialogue over conflict.

“I encourage you to keep both the national and local governments in your prayers, as guidance is essential for effective governance,” he added.

Rev. Lucky Osagbakhoe, the State Chairman of CAN, congratulated Governor Oborevwori on his recent electoral victories and praised the organization’s long-standing contributions to peace and development in Delta State.

He expressed confidence that CAN would continue to foster unity within the Christian community, emphasizing the importance of town hall meetings in the three senatorial districts to better gauge the sentiments of the populace.

“We appreciate your administration’s efforts in urban renewal, particularly through infrastructure development, and encourage you to maintain this positive trajectory,” he concluded.
