Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has declared that the local government election will hold on October 5, 2024, despite rumours of planned disruptions.

Fubara made this statement during a visit to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) office on Monday, where he was received by the Chairman Justice Adolphus Enebeli and other principal staff.

Fubara, visibly upset, emphasized that there are no legal obstacles to prevent the election and warned that nobody, regardless of their position, should attempt to disrupt the process.

He stressed that Rivers State belongs to everyone and that doing the right thing is crucial.

“If anyone, no matter how highly placed, or unauthorized policemen attempt to disrupt the election, let me know,” Fubara said.

“Our election will hold on October 5. RSIEC has an order to conduct the election, and security agencies will provide support,” he said.

Fubara also noted that he is not a lawyer, but he understood the concept of “first-in-hand,” implying that RSIEC has the authority to conduct the election.

He assured that the election would be free and fair, and one of the best ever held in Rivers State.

This bold move comes amidst accusations from the PDP that the APC is stoking crises in Rivers State, including calls for Fubara’s impeachment.
