    Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has charged the National executive members of Middle Belt Forum to use it’s position to unite the middle belt states and Nigeria at large.

    Governor Ododo gave the charge on Tuesday in his office, Lokoja when the national body of the forum led members of the newly inaugurated executive of Kogi state chapter to government house on a courtesy visit.

    The governor who was represented by his deputy Elder Joel Salifu Oyibo, said the forum has the capacity, ability and the intellect to unified the diverse ethnic groups in the north central and the entire country.

    “I therefore appealed to the forum that what happened in the last governorship election in Kogi State where ethnicity was clearly introduced in the state politics should be looked into because such type of politics is capable of tearing the state apart.

    “The forum should sensitize the people not only in Kogi but other states the consequence of ethnicity, religion in politics and the forum should try as much as possible to foster unity among the diverse ethnic groups in Kogi state” he stated.

    While assuring that the state government is very ready to collaborate with the middle belt forum to discharge its responsibilities, the governor urged them to rally round his administration for the betterment of the state.

    Earlier, the president of the forum Bitrus Podu who was represented by his vice, Mallam Idi Waziri, said the national body was in the Kogi to inaugurate the state’s chapter of the forum, saying the forum held the state in high esteem due to the peaceful nature of the state.

    He appealed to the people of middle belt to protect their cultures and nurture them to enable the younger ones knows their roots.
    Earlier, the Forum had inaugurated the kogi state council in Lokoja, kogi state.

    While inaugurating the state council, the National President Dr. Bitrus Pogu represented by his Vice Idi Waziri said kogi state is strategic to the growth and sustenance of the Middle Belt Forum and promise to continue to work together to improve governance structure in the country.
    Pogu noted that kogi state has remained invaluable to the association as all the ethnic groups cherished their culture, tradition and dialect, an attitude so dear to the forum.
    He said , the forum without kogi state means that the MBF has not started and urged the sworn in Excos to join hands with the National body to continue to uplift the association until the ultimate aim is realised.
    While calling on the forum members to work for the upliftment and defence of every member of the forum anywhere in the country.
    He charged for a concerted effort to support the government in their states and to defend anything that will alter the cohesion of the people who shared the same aspirations.
    He commended Governor Usman Ododo for his pragmatic development of human and infrastructures and appeal for his sustainable partnership.
    In his acceptance speech, the state chairman, David Ehimony, thanked the national leadership of the forum for keeping the flag of forum flying even at the most precarious and trying times.
    He assured that the state chapter will work in tandem with the National headquarters to realise the aims and objectives of the foundation fathers to create a niche and image for the people across the middle belt region.
    Recall that the Middle Belt Forum drawn it’s members through congruence of culture, tradition and dialect of the people who balkanised by the colonial and the Nigeria government’s partition of the country.
    National leadership that grace the event include, Dr. Emmanuel Onucheyo, Admin officer, Lanre Obafemi, Dr. Dekina obajuna.
    Highlight of the event was the oath taking by David Ehimony, chairman, Shittu Omala, Vice Chairman, Alhaji Raji Usman Secretary, Hon. Orebiyi , VC West: Hon. Bako Shigaba, VC East; Dr. Rabiu VC Central, others are Collins Adama organising secretary, Elesho Abiodun Financial Secretary, Com. Suleiman Mas Youth leader , Comrade Adeiza Momoh immediate past chairman of kogi NUJ as publicity Secretary, pastor Moses Bako Cultural officer, Awwal Imam, treasurer while Isiaka Mamud will serve as the assistant secretary.
