The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ogun has said it will immediately begin its campaign across the state following recognition of Oladipupo Adebutu as its governorship candidate by the Independent National Electoral Commission on Thursday.
INEC had in an updated list of candidates published on its website on Thursday also recognised 40 other candidates that will contest for 2023 election on the platform of Ogun PDP.
There have been contentions over PDP flag bearers for various positions in Ogun State following conduct of parallel congresses by different factions of the party.
However, a recent ruling by the Appeal Court affirmed the validity of candidates elected by faction of the party loyal to Adebutu at its primaries of 25th May 2022.
Ogun PDP, in a communique signed by ITS Director, Media and Publicity, for the Ladi Adebutu/Akinlade Campaign Organisation, Afolabi Orekoya, on Friday said following the court judgment, INEC had updated the list of PDP candidates for the state with the correct names.
“On Thursday, INEC published the names of the Governorship and Deputy Governorship Candidates, Hon. (Dr) Oladipupo Adebutu and Hon. Adekunle Abdulkabir Akinlade, in compliance with the court order. It had earlier released the legislative candidate lists for both State and Federal seats.”
“In view of the above, we wish to notify our teeming party members, stakeholders, supporters, admirers and the general public that we are back on the ballots and fully ready to take over leadership in Ogun State and rescue the good people of Ogun State from the shackles and maladministration of the APC government,” it read.
He added that the party will therefore rev up its campaign train immediately across the corners of the state to displace the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC in 2023 election.
“We appreciate the support of our teeming party faithful, loyalists and admirers especially the good people of Ogun State for their firm belief in our party.”
