Former presidential spokesman Reno Omokri has praised Chief Afe Babalola for his courage and refusal to succumb to pressure from critics.
Omokri’s commendation comes as Chief Babalola, a revered legal icon, faces a legal battle with activist Dele Farotimi, who he accused of defamation in a recently published book.
In a post on his social media platforms, Omokri extolled Babalola’s integrity and unwavering principles, describing him as a man of honour and a true embodiment of the Omoluabi ethos—a Yoruba concept of virtue and character.
“May God bless Chief Afe Babalola, who epitomises the zenith of the Omoluabi ethos. He is a man with humility who has contributed to his community and lived a life worthy of emulation,” Omokri wrote.
He further lauded Babalola’s resilience at 95, highlighting his steadfastness in the face of opposition.

“We will never be ashamed to associate with such a man of honour and courage who, at ninety-five, still refuses to be bullied by the crowd and the proud,” Omokri said.
Omokri emphasised that Babalola’s legacy is a testament to the enduring power of truth, adding, “No matter how far and fast falsehood has travelled, it will eventually be overtaken by truth.”
In his prayerful remarks, Omokri expressed hope that Babalola’s courage would inspire future generations.
He likened his wish to the biblical transfer of Elijah’s mantle to Elisha, stating, “May God permit a transfer of a double portion of Chief Babalola’s courage on his children, so we would not be missing men and women who can stand up to a horde of bullies in the future.”
