Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has lamented the challenges faced by workers in the state due to the removal of fuel subsidy.
He promised that his government would do whatever possible to mitigate the effect by providing necessary support with the limit of the law.
Adeleke, who spoke at the grand finale of the 14th convocation of Osun State University (Uniosun), said he understands the challenges imposed by the removal of fuel subsidies and promised to stay with the workers.
“We understand the challenges imposed by the removal of fuel subsidies, and I want to assure our staff that we are not oblivious of their struggles. We are doing everything within our power to mitigate the impact on your lives. We remain committed to ensuring that you receive the support you all deserve, within the limits of law,” Adeleke said.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Clement Adebooye, warned the graduating students to avoid attributing all problems of life to spirituality.
He posited that some problems require changes in character and attitude as well as ability to think and look at things in a positive way rather than categorising every challenge as spiritual problems.
Prof. Adebooye advocated investment in quality education as solution to some societal, national and global challenges.
“There are some challenges in the life that may cause you trauma, depression and irreversible oxidative damage. But unfortunately, as you know black people, we mistakenly categorise these challenges as spiritual problems.
“I can tell you for sure that all you need to overcome some of the challenges is a little change of your attitude, your character, the way you speak and sometimes, the way you look and think. Not all life challenges require fasting and prayer or climbing of mountains.
“At a time like this when there is increase in societal, national and global challenges, the wisest decision any government and nation can take is to invest more in quality education. To almost all the problems of Nigeria today, good education and advances in science and technology have very great roles to play,” Adebooye said.
The Chancellor, Mrs. Folorunso Alakija, encouraged the graduating students to be ambassadors of integrity and excellence. She equally advised the parents to continue to support their children until they could stand independently in society.
