    Osun police nab suspect, recover weapons after gang clash

    The Osun State Police Command, on Wednesday, paraded a suspected hoodlum, Damilola Olatunji, aged 22 years, said to have participated in a recent brawl involving some thugs around Balogun Agoro Area of Osogbo.

    Presenting the suspect to journalists at Osun Command Headquarters of Nigeria Police Force in Osogbo, the spokesperson for the command, Yemisi Opalola, said upon Olatunji’s arrest, some dangerous weapons were also recovered.

    Opalola further said, “On 18/05/2024 at about 1430HRS upon information received that some group of individuals engaged themselves in physical brawl along Balogun Agoro Junction Osogbo, a team of operatives from Police Response Unit (PRU) swung into action and were able to apprehend the suspect one Olatunji Damilola ‘M’ Aged 22yrs A.K.A Damoshe.

    “Upon interrogation and investigation, he led the police operatives to their armoury where the following exhibits were recovered; 4 pump action guns, three cut-to-size barrel guns, one locally made pistol, one jack knife, ten cutlasses and thirty-three live cartridges of ammunition.”

    She assured that efforts were on to apprehend other suspects involved in the clashes, noting that the suspect would be charged in court after the investigation.

    She admonished residents to give prompt and credible information to the police, adding that every strange movement, as well as, people around, should be reported to the security agents to prevent crimes.

    PUNCH Online reports that a street beggar, whose name could not be ascertained, said to be a northerner living in Osogbo, was shot dead during the clash, where hoodlums fought over a booty given to them by a property owner around Gbaemu Area of Osogbo.

    Residents of the area told PUNCH Online during a visit that hoodlums from the Asoje and Egbatedo Areas of Osogbo have been engaging in bloody clashes since Sunday, May 12, over who should collect money from a man who recently bought a property in the area.

    The deceased was said to have been hit by a stray bullet fired by the hoodlums around the Asoje area during the clash.
