The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akwa Ibom State officially launched its campaign for the upcoming October 5, 2024, Local Government elections,.
Flagging off the campaigns in Uyo on Thursday, Governor Umo Eno urged candidates to leverage the significant developmental milestones of his administration as the foundation of their campaigns.
Governor Eno emphasized that the success of his administration’s ARISE Agenda provides candidates with a solid track record of achievements to present to the electorate.
He encouraged the candidates to focus on development-driven campaigns, pointing out that his administration’s projects and programs, aimed at improving the lives of Akwa Ibom citizens, offer clear evidence of progress and can serve as strong talking points during their campaigns.
The Governor also highlighted the importance of issue-based campaigns, stressing that the PDP’s candidates should not engage in negative campaigning but instead focus on delivering impactful messages centered around development and service.
“You are great ambassadors of our party and the ARISE Agenda,” Governor Eno declared. “Go and sell your programs to the people, emboldened by the trust that we have earned through our service. You don’t have to struggle for campaign content—our track record of service, accountability, and development speaks for itself.”

The Governor also called attention to the importance of rural development, a central theme in his administration’s agenda. He advised the candidates to be transparent and accountable in managing the finances of their respective Local Government Areas, particularly under the current regime of local government autonomy. He urged them to be ready to lead with integrity and work toward the betterment of grassroots communities.
In his remarks, the Akwa Ibom State PDP Chairman, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Aniekan Akpan, commended Governor Eno for his excellent performance in office, noting that the Governor’s strides in just a few months have steered the state towards accelerated progress across multiple sectors. He affirmed that the PDP remains the trusted platform for delivering patriotic and people-oriented leadership and emphasized the party’s readiness for the October 5 elections.
“Governor, we commend your outstanding work so far. The party fully supports your administration. As we approach the polls, PDP is confident of victory because the people recognize the impact of the leaders produced by this party,” Akpan stated.
Earlier in the event, the Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State PDP Congress Coordinating Committee, Engr. Uwem Okoko, explained that the party’s candidates were selected through a transparent, inclusive, and fair nomination process. He highlighted the increased participation of women and youth, a testament to the party’s commitment to inclusive leadership.
Deputy Governor, Sen. Akon Eyakenyi, applauded Governor Eno’s inclusive leadership, noting that the expanded role of women in political leadership under his administration would further galvanize support for the PDP from women across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the 31 chairmanship candidates, Uyo LGA chairmanship candidate Dr. Uwemedimo Udo expressed gratitude to the Governor and the PDP, pledging that their campaigns would focus solely on issues that matter to the people.
The event marked the official kick-off of what promises to be a competitive and issue-focused campaign season in Akwa Ibom State.
