LAGOS – The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors are holding their ground on acknowledging Governor Siminalayi Fubara as the party leader in Rivers State.
The ex-governor of the state, Nyesom Wike, and Fubara have been in a fierce struggle for control of the party’s leadership structure.
Wike, who currently serves as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, issued a stern warning to the PDP governors to stay away from Rivers State. He even went as far as threatening to cause chaos in their respective states if they continue to support his estranged godson.
In response to Wike’s fiery statements, the Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Governor Bala Mohammed, affirmed their unwavering support for Fubara.
During the reception of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) delegation, Governor Mohammed of Bauchi State emphasized that the PDP governors’ decision was final.

In a press briefing following the meeting, Governor Mohammed stressed that Governor Fubara, as the primary PDP member in Rivers State, should rightfully oversee the party’s organizational framework.
He informed the press that the NWC delegation has endorsed “the decision of the PDP Governors’ Forum to support Governor Similaye Fubara as the leader of the PDP in Rivers State.
“This decision is appropriate and aligns with the party’s structure. Governor Fubara holds the leadership position in the state. It is in this context that we unanimously agreed to uphold the rule of law, with the delegation showing strong commitment and backing for the PDP Governors Forum’s stance in Rivers State.
“We are well aware of the dynamic between the FCT Minister and the current Governor of Rivers State, which resembles that of a mentor and mentee. Our efforts are concentrated on facilitating their collaboration in a manner that reflects the values of the PDP.”
“Surely, we cannot impose our will here, but we have mustered the courage and determination to guarantee that the right course of action is taken,” he remarked.
