The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has knocked former Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, accusing him of being more interested in his ambition to be president in 2027 than in the hardship in the country.
The former governor, while speaking at an event over the weekend, reportedly said: “PDP is dead.”
Dr. Kwankwaso had declared he would win the 2027 presidential election during the inauguration of the NNPP Secretariat, along the IBB Way in Katsina State.
According to him, the NNPP was ready to take over the presidency, states and other positions across the country in 2027.
He explained that the party was heading towards success in the 2027 general elections.
The Kwankwasiya leader said: “I wish to remind you that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is already dead. We were in the party, but since they had gone out of the line, we decided to check out.”
He called on Nigerians, especially women and youths, not to allow themselves to be deceived with spaghetti or money during the next elections.
Kwankwaso also called on the party’s leaders to redouble their commitment towards the success of the party in the state and the country as a whole.
Reacting yesterday, the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, said Kwankwaso was inconsequential in the politics of the country, noting that his party, the NNPP only won one state in the last election, compared to 13 states controlled by the PDP.
“Our reaction to the statement credited to Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso is that he is very inconsequential in the Nigerian national politics today, judging from the fact that he is struggling to lead a party called the NNPP which is also struggling to control only one state.
“It is unfathomable to imagine that a failed and inconsequential politician with only one state would claim that a Party that has 13 governors, many Senators, many Members of the House of Representatives, several States Assembly control and strong presence in all the Local Government Areas and Wards across the country is dead.
“It is unfortunate that at this time when Nigerians, including in Sen. Kwankwaso’s home state, Kano, are dying of hunger and starvation; when over 150 million Nigerians have sunk deeper into poverty, the only thing that occupies Kwankwaso’s mind is his self-centred pipe-dream of becoming president. It is very unfortunate.”
The opposition spokesman added: “So, the PDP does not intend to join issues with him on such display of self-centredness and insensitivity. In any event, whatever political relevance Kwankwaso believes he has achieved, he did so only when he was in the PDP.”
