    BENIN – Peter Obi, Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party, LP, at the 2023 Presidential election on Tuesday joined the party leaders and supporters in Edo state to canvas for votes for the governorship candidate, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata, ahead of the state Sept. 21 governorship election.

    Peter Obi’s movement in all the major streets of Benin paralysed social and economic activities for serveral hours following traffic jams it created.

    Speaking at the different campaign locations, Obi urged eligible voters in Edo state to come out en masse to cast their votes for the party to enable Akpata implement the party’s programmes for the creation of a better Edo.

    He said the party’s governorship candidate, Mr Olumide Akpata, would provide the change the state needed to move forward.

    According to the former Anambra state governor, “we want a change in Edo state, vote for mama, papa and pikin come Sept 21, 2024. the party will reduce the current hardship being felt in the state.

    On his part, the governorship candidate, Olumide Osaigbovo Akpata said that he was the best candidate in the Edo governorship project.

    He said “Sept 21, 2024 is freedom day for Edo People, come out and cast your votes for the winning party”.

    Addressing the party members at the end of the campaign at the party’s secretariat, Akpata commended the support the party has so far received from Edo people and urged them to demonstrate it on Saturday, September 21, by casting their votes for Papa, Mama and Pikin logo to give victory to the party for the betterment of the state.

    He said “Quarrel is too much, everyone should do his homework. You saw what unity did for us today, the turnout was massive and we are sure of victory.

    “I didn’t come to the party to settle quarrel, or come to this ward to settle quarrel today, come to that ward to settle trouble tomorrow. I am not in for that, I am contesting the governorship to give the people of Edo a better life.

    “We are the winning party and we are not ready to fight. We are here to win the election and offer the best to the people”

    The campaign train took off from the party’s secretariat at Sakponba road and went through Ring road, Oba Market, Mission Road, New Benin Market, New Lagos road, Uwelu spare park market and Ikpoba Hill.
