Plateau State Police Command has arrested 20 suspected armed robbers, kidnappers and murderers. It also recovered prohibited firearms in Shimankar, Shandam Local Government.
Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, said: “These ‘ember’ months, we will checkmate hoodlums and drive them out of the state. The Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) arrested some suspects for criminal intimidation, attempted murder and kidnap of one Ifeanyi Edwin in Shendam LG, threatening to kill him, if he refuses to pay N3 million ransom. The unit arrested another suspected kidnapper and recovered locally made pistol in his possession.
“Laranto Division operatives arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued three victims in Gwaza village, Jos North LG, recovering N1,492,000 paid as ransom by the victims’ families. The Anti-Cultism Unit (ACU) arrested three suspects in Jenta Adamu, Jos. They specialised in terrorising innocent citizens.
“Operatives at Wase Division clamped down on some suspected armed robbers at Tunga village, Wase LG, and recovered some locally fabricated rifles, N45,000, phone and motorcycle.
“The AKU arrested two suspected kidnappers in Shimankar. They specialised in using motorcycles to rob and kidnap victims. They recovered AK-47 rifles with breach no. 86258 and 26 rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.
“The Police Pankshin Division operatives arrested two suspected kidnappers threatening some victims in Posat Fier village, Pankshin. The suspects confessed to be responsible for the kidnap of one Father Jude Nwachukwu, St. Vincent De Paul Church, Tier Parish.
“Operatives arrested some other suspected armed robbers terrorising the Jos axis of Jos-Bauchi Expressway. Police arrested two suspected hit-and-run drivers at Art Bookshop, Bukuru axis.
“We are committed to ensuring safety of life and property. We have deployed police operatives in flash points to chase the hoodlums out of the state.”
