Damilola was reported missing on September 4, 2024. Reports indicate that Jeremiah, along with others, had initially demanded a ransom of N10 million from her family. After the family paid N400,000, Jeremiah, who is reportedly from Kaduna State, became dissatisfied with the amount. He allegedly killed Damilola and mutilated her body.

While the police did not disclose how Jeremiah was apprehended, they confirmed that he is currently in custody, and further investigations are ongoing.
