    Police arrest two for transformer, cable thefts in Edo

    A 50-year-old man, KC Okojie Prince, has been arrested for the alleged theft of two electricity transformers and two drums of 2.5 flex cable wires.

    Also in custody is one Aruka Uche (40), who reportedly received the stolen items from the suspects.

    The suspect allegedly committed the offense at No. 8, Idugboe Estate, off Sapele road, Benin-City, on 11 August, 2024. An accomplice in the crime, one Ojo is at large.

    It was gathered that the suspects “deceitfully gain entrance to No. 8 Idugboe Estate, off Sapele Road, Benin City and made away with the following electrical equipment.”

    The stolen items are One 300kva transformer, one 100kva transformer and two drums 2.5mm flex cable wire.

    This was revealed in a statement by the Command’s spokesman, Moses Yamu on Friday.

    Yamu disclosed that diligent investigation by operatives of X-Squad Benin-City led to the arrest of Prince who confessed to have committed the crime with Ojo.

    He added, “He further led our operatives to the receiver of the stolen items, one Aruka Uche 40yrs and all the equipment were recovered at No. 5 Eben Street, off Akpakpava, Benin-City.”

    Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Nemi Edwin-Iwo, has sought the support and cooperation of members of the public to give information to the Police that may lead to fishing out criminals.

    Edwin-Iwo reiterated the Command’s commitment in ensuring that the spate of kidnappings, armed robbery and other criminal activities is brought to the barest minimum in the state.
