The Ogun State Police have apprehended two men suspected of stealing motorcycles, commonly known as Okadas. The suspects are accused of snatching a TVS motorcycle from Daniel Michael in Owode-Egba.
In addition to Michael’s motorcycle, the suspects reportedly stole another Okada from Majek Obasanjo, along with his Itel phone and 13,200 Naira while he attempted to reclaim his bike.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrests in a statement released in Abeokuta on Tuesday.
The suspects, identified as Abibu Yusuf, 23, and Sanni Said, 30, were caught following eyewitness accounts that led police to their location near a bush path in the Fidiwo area of Owode-Egba. Odutola explained that the suspects stole Michael’s motorcycle, which has the registration number L358 and is valued at one million Naira. They also took Obasanjo’s motorcycle and his belongings despite his attempts to fight back.

Odutola noted a rise in motorcycle thefts in Ogun State, emphasizing the importance of public vigilance to avoid becoming victims of armed robbery. “With the increase in armed motorcycle robberies, we urge residents, whether riding as passengers or operating as commercial riders, to stay alert,” she said.
On October 2, near Fidiwo, Daniel Michael reported that two men emerged from the bushes, armed with a rod. They attacked him, striking him in the chest and back, which caused him to lose consciousness. When he regained awareness, his motorcycle was gone, but he was able to identify the attackers despite his injuries.
Similarly, Majek Obasanjo, who was robbed in the same area, bravely fought back against the robbers. Although he was able to defend himself, the criminals stole his Itel phone and 13,200 Naira before escaping.
Eyewitnesses recognized the fleeing suspects as Abibu Yusuf and Sanni Said, both of whom are from the northern region. Acting on these tips, police arrested the suspects and recovered two cutlasses at the crime scene.
Odutola stated that the Divisional Police Officer of Owode-Egba is working diligently to rid the area of criminal activity and ensure that the arrested individuals are prosecuted to deter future offenses.
