The Police Command in Kaduna State has confirmed a failed kidnap attempt by gunmen on Wednesday night on the Paramount Ruler of Ninzo Chiefdom, Alhaji Umar Musa.

The chiefdom is in the state’s Sanga Local Government Area.

The spokesperson of the command, ASP Mansir Hassan, however, told the News Agency of Nigeria that “the whereabouts of the chief’s wife was still unknown.”

Mansir said that security operatives have since been deployed to the forests around Sanga in search of the wife.

The Ninzo Development Association, in a statement signed by its President and Secretary, Prof. Moses Audi and Silas Anche, respectively, “condemned the planned kidnap of their traditional ruler that led to the disappearance of his wife.”

The statement however called for calm to allow the government to live up to its responsibility.

In May 2023, PUNCH Online reported the invasion of the palace of the Emir of Kagarko, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar, in Southern Kaduna, kidnapping nine of his children in the town.

Among those abducted by the terrorists were his grandchildren and three others.

In 2021, bandits also abducted Gyet Maude, the traditional ruler of the Jaba chiefdom in the Jaba Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The first-class-monarch, who was said to be over 80 years old, was said to have been abducted while on his farm located in Gitata, a border town between Kaduna and Nasarawa states – with the kidnappers demanding N100m ransom before his eventual release two days after.
