In what appears to be a recurring decimal, some gunmen reportedly abducted a woman, Nimota Busari, in the Ibepa area of the Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State on Thursday.

This is just as the state police command said it had launched a manhunt for the suspects who perpetrated the abduction.

PUNCH Metro gathered from a police source on Tuesday that Busari and her children were returning home from her shop in her vehicle when they were accosted by the gunmen.

The gunmen were said to have laid siege to the woman and her children at the gate of their home, attacked them, dragged the children from the vehicle and abducted the mother.

The source said, “Nimota Busari and her children were returning home in her unregistered navy blue 2010 Toyota Corolla from her shop in Ibepa Area, Sagamu.

“Three armed men intercepted her at the gate, snatched the car, threw the children out, abducted her, and drove off.”

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, in a telephone conversation on Tuesday noted that an investigation had commenced to secure the release of the abducted woman.

“The Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, has directed a manhunt of the suspects and a safe rescue of the victim.

“Upon receiving the information, officers were immediately mobilised to the area for discreet investigation and to restore calm.”

She stressed that there were concerns about a syndicate carrying out the abduction within the axis while stating that the suspects would soon be apprehended.

“This is a syndicate operating within Sagamu, Iperu, Ikenne, Odogbolu and Erewon in Ijebu Ode.

“Their modus operandi is to lay wait for their unsuspecting victims at the gate, and when their victims alight from the vehicle with the engine running, towards opening the gate, the armed hoodlums, will suddenly emerge from their hiding spot and zoom off with the car with occupants inside the vehicle.

“The police have launched a manhunt for them and they will soon be apprehended. There is no hiding place for criminals within the state.”

PUNCH Metro reported on Saturday that the state police command urged residents of the state to be conscious of the new tactics deployed by kidnappers to get their victims.

Odutola, in an exclusive chat with PUNCH Metro, said kidnappers now laid siege to their victims at their gates and attacked when they were about to enter their homes.

Odutola, who disclosed that a manhunt had been launched for the kidnapping syndicate, stressed that the incidents had become prevalent in the eastern part of the state.

The spokesperson disclosed that areas where the syndicates operate include Sagamu, Iperu, Ikenne, Odogbolu, and Eruwon in Ijebu Ode in the Ogun East Senatorial District.
