Three Indian nationals have been kidnapped but rescued in Ogun State. On May 4, the Divisional Police Officer of Mowe divisional headquarters received a distress call from the manager of Breeze Company Nigeria Limited, located at Lagos-Ibadan expressway that their staff have been kidnapped.
The manager explained that on May 3, while his principals, numbering about 16 were returning to their residence at Kajola junction, a gang of kidnappers opened gunfire into the two Toyota hiace buses with registration number FST 686 YH ash colour and SMK 986 YS black colour that was conveying them home.
In response, the escort attached to the first bus exchanged fire with the kidnappers and managed to escape with all the occupants in the first vehicle.
But the second vehicle was not lucky. Three Indian nationals were kidnapped. They were: Tejaram Chauhan; Kaduwa Pradhan and Medani Kathiwada, all males. All those inside the second bus without police escort were taken to an unknown destination.
The anti-kidnapping section of the command in concert with police formations in the axis with other local security agents swung into action by combing the area, including Benin-Shagamu-Papalanto areas.
They ran into luck and policemen engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle, confronting the kidnappers in the forest at about 4.30p.m. on May 7. They succeeded in the rescue of the victims unhurt.
In the course of the encounter, two out of the six kidnappers were demobilised, two AK-47 rifles, one single barrel locally made gun, one sword, cell phone, criminal charms and 65 rounds of ammunition were recovered.
The likely ransom loot of the two demobilised kidnappers of the sum of N7.9 million and 1,500 rupees (Indian currencies) were also recovered.
The body of the two demobilised kidnappers have been deposited at the public hospital while efforts are ongoing to arrest the four fleeing members of the kidnapping gang.
