POS operator nabbed for stealing employer’s N465,000 in Lagos

A female Point of Sale (POS) operator, Okebunmi Beatrice Wemimo, 18, has been arrested and charged with stealing N465,000 from her employer, Adebisi Omolade.
Wemimo reportedly stole the funds, which were entrusted to her for deposit into a customer’s account, before fleeing the scene.
According to the police, Omolade filed a complaint with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) after discovering the theft and her subsequent disappearance.
Acting on the IGP’s directive, a team from the Inspector General of Police’s Monitoring Unit tracked down the suspect to a hideout in Lagos, where she was arrested.
Wemimo was arraigned at the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on two charges of stealing.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Kingsley Jackson, explained that the theft took place on December 17, 2024, opposite GTCO Bank, Tinubu Square, Lagos Island.
He also highlighted that Wemimo had violated the trust her employer placed in her.
The accused pleaded guilty to the charges, and the case was adjourned by the presiding Magistrate, Miss D.I. Amos, for facts and sentencing.
The offences are punishable under sections 411 and 280(1)(a)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
