Private Sector Health Alliance of Nigeria (PSHAN) recently celebrated its 2024 annual gala and awards nights in Lagos; building on last year’s inaugural event, the annual gala exceeded all expectations.
With the theme “Celebrating Excellence in Healthcare,” the event celebrated excellence, filled with speeches, delightful entertainment and the recognition of individuals and organisations driving real change.
PSHAN MD/CEO, Dr Tinuola Akinbolagbe, said: “We are honoured to acknowledge those who invested their time and resources in improving health outcomes in our nation. Your dedication inspires us and strengthens our commitment to a healthier Nigeria.”
Deputy Secretary-General, United Nations and Chair of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group, Ms Amina Mohammed, noted that universal health coverage is a key to achieving SDG3 and all the SDGs, from poverty eradication to building peaceful and inclusive society.
WHO Country Representative and Head of Mission to Nigeria, Dr. Walter Mulombo, said: “When it was founded some years ago, I’m sure we never imagined the scale of the results we’re seeing today. PSHAN’s journey proves that strategic collaboration is the way forward for sustainable healthcare development.”
CEO, Aliko Dangote Foundation, Zouera Youssoufou, said: “Four people, Aliko Dangote; Mr. AigbojeAig-Imoukhuede; Jim Ovia and Sola David-Borha came together with a shared idea: How can the private sector unite to address health issues and support the government? Now, 10 years later, we are witnessing the impact of that vision and it is only the beginning.”
Winners at the different categories included: Federal, State, and Local Government Healthcare Equity & Access award was won by the Lagos State Healthcare Policy Award won by Lagos State Ministry of Health; National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) won the Maternal Equity Advancement Award while LUTH won the Sustainability in Healthcare award.
Other categories: Health Journalism Award, Media Health Advocacy Award, Outstanding Health Investigation Award, Health Influencer of the Year, Healthcare Partnerships Award, Community Health Award, Award for Disease Control, Emergency Response Award, Capacity Building Award, Healthcare Leadership Award, Outstanding Medical Practitioner Award, Change Agent Award, Healthcare Advocate of the Year, Award for Outstanding Philanthropy were won by Mrs Mojisola Makanjuola; Channels TV; NCDC; Dr Chinonso Egemba (Aproko Doctor); Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation; NPHCDA, NCDC; NEMA; United States Agency for International Development (USAID); Dr Fidelis Ayabae; Dr Filani Oyebanji; Dr Olufunmilayo Olopade; Mrs Stella Okoli; Dr Chioma Nwakanma and Well-being Foundation Africa respectively.
