    A senior correspondent at PUNCH Newspapers, Alfred Olufemi, has been shortlisted for the 2022 Fetisov Journalism Awards.

    The organisers, on Monday, announced that one of Olufemi’s reports was one of the 37 entries selected from 81 countries.

    “37 best stories in the four categories were selected by the FJA Expert Council out of 350 entries from 81 countries.”

    “Over the four years of the award’s existence, contestants from 123 countries took part in the global competition.  The shortlisted projects include 15 collaborative works, 6 of which are cross-border investigations,” the organisers stated.

    It was also stated that the prize winners will be announced at the awards ceremony in 2023.

    The prize fund of the Fetisov Journalism Awards is 520,000 Swiss francs. The first prize winner in each category will receive a monetary prize of 100,000 Swiss francs, the second prize winner – 20,000 Swiss francs, and the third prize – 10,000 Swiss francs.

    Olufemi’s entry, an investigation into the herders-farmers clashes in central Nigeria which was first published on Aljazeera in 2021, was shortlisted under the ‘Outstanding Contribution to Peace’ category.

    A celebrated journalist, Olufemi has a couple of awards under his belt including the West African Media Excellence Award, the Diamond Award for Media Excellence, the International Centre for Investigative Reporting award for data and investigative stories, and the International Organisation for Migration awards for migration reporting.
