Manchester City unleashed a blistering display of firepower to thrash Chelsea 3-1 in a pulsating encounter at the Etihad, marking their ascension into the Premier League’s top four.

The clash was a testament to City’s clinical precision, spearheaded by Erling Haaland and Phil Foden, whose masterclass left the Blues chasing shadows.

The match began with an electric start as Chelsea capitalised on a defensive blunder from City. Noni Madueke pounced on a catastrophic error in the opening minutes, coolly slotting the ball past Ederson to hand the home side a 1-0 lead.

Chelsea’s early momentum, however, was short-lived as City regrouped with ominous intent.

City’s equaliser came in the 42nd minute, courtesy of Josko Gvardiol, who calmly tapped the ball into an empty net after a ricochet off the Chelsea defence.

Despite flashes of brilliance from the Blues, including a mazy run by Nicolas Jackson that tested Ederson’s reflexes, the Citizens’ unrelenting pressure began to suffocate their hosts.

The second half saw City take command. Erling Haaland showcased his predatory instincts, timing his run to perfection to receive a sublime pass from Ederson. With a deft chip over Robert Sanchez, he gave City a 2-1 advantage in the 68th minute.

Chelsea’s attempts to mount a comeback were met with fierce resistance, with Pedro Neto and Noni Madueke’s efforts repeatedly thwarted by City’s resolute defence.

Levi Colwill’s late attempt from a corner epitomised Chelsea’s frustration as he blazed his shot high over the bar.

City sealed the game in the 87th minute with a moment of brilliance. Haaland turned provider, threading a perfect pass to Phil Foden, who rifled a low shot into the bottom corner, leaving Sanchez with no chance.

The 3-1 scoreline was a fair reflection of City’s dominance, as they controlled possession and carved out chance after chance.

The match ended with six minutes of added drama, but Chelsea’s efforts proved futile. City’s disciplined defence, led by Gvardiol and John Stones, nullified every threat, ensuring their victory was never in doubt.

With this emphatic win, Pep Guardiola’s side moves into the top four, firmly re-establishing themselves as title contenders.
