Manchester United fell to a disappointing 2-1 defeat against West Ham United on Sunday, intensifying the scrutiny on manager Erik Ten Hag as calls for his sacking grow louder.

Alejandro Garnacho had an early chance, hitting the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the box in the third minute.

Despite a flurry of opportunities, United struggled to find the back of the net. Garnacho’s next effort went wide, and Rasmus Hojlund was denied a golden chance by a remarkable save from West Ham’s Lukasz Fabianski.

As the first half progressed, Diogo Dalot squandered another chance, sending a volley narrowly over the bar.

Casemiro almost broke the deadlock just before the halftime whistle, but Fabianski’s reflexes kept the score level at 0-0.

West Ham took the lead in the 74th minute through Crysencio Summerville, who netted after a well-crafted move involving Danny Ings.

United responded with an equaliser shortly after, as Casemiro headed home from a precise cross by Joshua Zirkzee, making it 1-1 in the 81st minute.

However, drama unfolded in the closing moments of the match. After a VAR review for a potential penalty following a challenge on Danny Ings, the referee awarded a penalty to West Ham. Jarrod Bowen stepped up and converted the spot-kick in the second minute of stoppage time, sealing the victory at 2-1.

Despite a valiant effort, including a late save by Andre Onana to deny Emerson, Manchester United could not recover from Bowen’s strike.

The defeat leaves Ten Hag facing mounting pressure as the team’s performance continues to falter.
