As Pillars edge Katsina United in north-west derby
Remo Stars stormed back to the summit of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table with an emphatic 2-0 victory over El-kanemi Warriors in yesterday’s week 16 match in Remo-Ikenne.
Remo’s return to the top was also facilitated by Enugu Rangers’ 1-0 win over title contenders Rivers United who occupied the number one position at week 15 but have now dropped to second due to inferior goal difference.

Both Remo Stars and Rivers United have 29 points each while title holders Enugu Rangers have moved into third position with 27 points dislodging Ikorodu City who suffered a slim 0-1 loss at Bayelsa United to slip to fourth.
In Ikenne, Peter Onuoha and Kwame Mawuena scored a goal each in the first half for Remo Stars to beat El-Kanemi Warriors just as Collins Ugwueze’s lone strike in the 16th minute was enough for Rangers to annex the maximum points against Rivers United at the ‘Cathedral.’
Kano Pillars also confirmed their supremacy over neighbours Katsina United as Abba Adam’s 34th minute goal handed the ‘Sai Masu Gida’ boys a slim 1-0 victory in the north-west derby at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
In the other week 16 match played in Jos, Plateau United rallied back to inflict a 3-2 defeat on resurgent Heartland. United drew the first blood when Anthony Sunday found the back of the net in the 6th minute but a brace by Tobe Ige in the 51st and 57th minute swung the tie in favour of the visitors.
However, Sunday scored his brace in the 70th minute to draw United level before Mafeng Pam snatched the maximum points with the winner in the last minute of regulation time.
In Umuahia, Abia Warriors piped Niger Tornadoes 2-1 just as Rabiu Abdullahi scored in the 79th minute at the Samson Siasia Stadium Yenagoa for Bayelsa United to halt the unbeaten run of new boys Ikorodu City.
The other week 16 fixture between Akwa United and Bendel Insurance which was shifted due to Enyimba’s continental engagement at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo will be played today.
