The House of Representatives on Thursday mandated its Committee on Power to investigate the recurrent collapse of the national grid and report back within three weeks.
This followed the adoption of a motion of urgent national importance by Rep Mansur Manu Soro (Bauchi, APC) at plenary.
Soro, in his motion, expressed worries over the unending grid collapse, throwing the entire country into blackout and further compounding the economic hardship Nigerians are currently facing.

He said power supply remained indispensable in boosting economic development and growth of any nation.
Soro lamented that eight incidences of national grid collapse had been witnessed in 2024 alone, describing the trend as worrisome.
The lawmaker said the entire states in the North West and North East regions were groping in darkness due to the crisis in the power sector, emphasising the need for the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) to restore power supply to the affected areas.
He said it was concerning that the collapse of the national grid was happening at a time the Minister of Power was assuring Nigerians of improved power supply which necessitated the government to approve an increment in electricity tariffs for Band A customers.
