Residents of Akwaka and Rumuodomaya communities in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State have called on police and other security agencies to come to their aide over increasing incidents of robberies,kidnapping and other violent crimes in the area.
PM NEWS investigations revealed that traders in the communities now close their shops as early as 8pm following repeated attacks by robbers in the area.
Gunmen had on Monday night at about 8pm abducted a woman after shooting sporadically into the air at Road 10 junction, Akwaka phase two.
Some residents of the communities told our correspondent that before the before the Monday abduction of the woman, the two areas have witnessed robberies targeted at homes and businesses in the area.
The residents therefore appealed to the Commissioner of Police to come to their aid by ensuring regular patrols of the area, especially during the Yuletide season and beyond.
They also suggested that Police Command should activate more operatives from its unit located at the defunct SARS headquarters in Rukpokwu and the the Divisional Police headquarters in Rumuodomaya for adequate policing of the area.
“We pleading with the Commissioner of Police, CP Effiong Okon, to use his good office as a matter of urgency to deploy more men and vehicle for patrol of this area to weed out the miscreants,” said a resident.
The added that the Police Commissioner should descend on the criminals in the area in view of his ten days ultimatum to outlaws in Rivers state to submit their guns and other dangerous weapons.
At the time of filing this report,the Spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command is yet to speak on what is being done to safeguard Akwaka residents over the frequent robberies and kidnappings in the area.
Meanwhile,at the time of filing this report residents of the area are yet to fathom the true identity of the female Victim abducted on Monday.
