There was pandemonium early morning Sunday, October 20, in Edeoha community in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State, as gunmen suspected to be cultists invaded the area and killed four residents.
It was gathered that the gunmen suspected to be members of Iceland cult group invaded the community at about 2:am with sophisticated weapons and assault rifles shooting sporadically and went from house to house in search of their targets, killing four persons in the process.
Community sources disclosed that three of the persons killed were natives of Edeoha, while the other one was native of Ekata community still in Ahoada East LGA, but resided in Edeoha.
Intelligence sources disclosed that the suspected Iceland cult members, who carried out the killing came from a camp in a neighbouring community (name withheld) to carry out the overnight killing at Edeoha.
A native of the community who pleaded anonymity told our reporter the persons who were killed were not cult members.
The source continued that the attack was believed to be have been carried out by cultists who might have been paid by mischievous persons to eliminate the four residents for unclear issues.
Checks by Daily Sun revealed that Edeoha community is accessible by road from Mbiama-Ahoada highway and also surrounded by creeks and rivers which make hoodlums, sometimes, take advantage of.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Grace Iringe-Koko, a Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed the incident to journalists.
Iringe-Koko said: “Yes, I can confirm the incident, it’s cult-related.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Mohammed Mustapha, has instructed the Ahoada Area Commander and the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) to commence investigation into the incident with a view to apprehending the perpetrators and making them face justice.”
