A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order restraining the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governors, National Working Committee (NWC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) from dissolving the executive committees of the party in Rivers State.

Justice Peter Lifu granted the order on Wednesday following an ex-parte application filed by the PDP Rivers State executive committee, led by Aaron Chukwuemeka, alongside local government and ward executives.

The ruling also prohibits PDP’s national leadership from establishing any interim committees to replace the officers at the state, local government, or ward levels, who were elected earlier this year during various party congresses.

These executives were said to have been elected between July 27 and August 31, 2024.

In the enrolled order, the court instructed that the tenure of the Rivers PDP executive committees must not be truncated. Furthermore, no other individuals or groups are allowed to perform the duties of the elected officers.

The ex-parte application filed by Aaron Chukwuemeka, Oye Fubara Igenewari, and ThankGod Bekee on behalf of the state, local government and ward executive committees, listed the PDP, Umar Damagun, Samuel Anyanwu, Umar Bature, the NWC, NEC, BoT, INEC and Alhaji Bala Mohammed of the Governors Forum, as the 1st to 9th defendants.

The plaintiffs, represented by Dr Joshua Musa (SAN), alleged that the defendants were making secretive moves to dissolve the legally constituted executive committees in Rivers State.

The court has scheduled a hearing for October 4.
