The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has granted Saleh Mamman, who was sacked as Minister of Power under ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, bail to the tune of N10bn and two sureties in like sum.
Mamman was arraigned on 12 counts bordering on conspiracy to commit money laundering and possession and use of known proceeds of criminal conduct.
In a ruling on Friday, Justice James Omotosho ordered Mamman to produce two sureties in like sum.
Justice Omotosho held that the sureties must own properties in Abuja with a minimum value rate of N750m.
The court also held that sureties must submit certified land documents to the court with a three-year tax levy.
It ruled that the defendants shall submit bank statements and international passports to the court.
In the alternative, the court held that the defendant can produce a bank guarantee of the said amount and that if that is provided no surety is needed.
The court subsequently adjourned the case to September 25, 2024, for the commencement of the trial.
This comes after Justice Omotosho on Thursday, ordered that Mamman be remanded in Kuje prison, Abuja, pending the consideration of his bail application.
The former minister had collapsed outside the courtroom before the case was called.
Mamman is facing trial over his alleged complicity in a N33 billion fraud.
In September 2021, Buhari fired Mamman, alongside then Minister of Agriculture, Sabo Nanono.
They were about the only ministers Buhari sacked in his eight-year tenure, aside from some those he dropped in his first term.
The former minister was arrested about four months after he was removed from office.
