Sanwo-Olu donates N75M to Nigerian Legion, vows better welfare

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has donated N75 million to the State Council of the Nigerian Legion as part of his administration’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of Legionnaires and the families of fallen heroes.
The donation was made during the Appeal Fund and the official launch of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem at Lagos House, Marina, on Monday.
The event, which was attended by Lagos State Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; Secretary to the State Government, Barr. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin; members of the State Executive Council; service commanders; Commissioner of Police; and officials of the Nigerian Legion, also marked the unveiling of the emblem and Appeal Fund ahead of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day on January 15, 2025.
Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of Legionnaires, especially the elderly and families of fallen heroes, highlighting the need to continually honour their sacrifices.
He praised the Nigerian Legion and the families of fallen heroes for their unwavering service to the nation, assuring them that the government would include Legionnaires in its various welfare programs.

In response to a request from the Chairman of the Lagos State Council of the Nigerian Legion, DCG Akeem Olawale Wolimoh, Sanwo-Olu pledged to donate several housing units in the Prince Abiodun Ogunleye Housing Estate in Ikorodu to provide shelter for the vulnerable and elderly Legionnaires.
Additionally, he promised to supply security vehicles and equipment to support the Nigerian Legion in their ongoing efforts to protect lives and property in the state.
Earlier, DCG Wolimoh expressed his gratitude to Sanwo-Olu for his ongoing support for retired officers and the families of fallen heroes in Lagos State.
He also commended the Governor for the judicious use of the N50 million donation made last year for the welfare of the Legion and families of the fallen heroes.
During the ceremony, Governor Sanwo-Olu, alongside his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Barr. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Head of Service Mr. Bode Agoro, Chief of Staff Mr. Tayo Ayinde, Commissioner for Home Affairs Hon. Olanrewaju Layode, and other members of the State Executive Council, as well as heads of security agencies in the state, were decorated with the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem.
