Sanwo-Olu urges National Unity ahead of Nigeria’s 64th Independence celebration

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has urged all Nigerians to unite in overcoming the current economic challenges as the country prepares to celebrate its 64th Independence anniversary.
The Governor made this call during a Thanksgiving Service organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs, at the Chapel of Christ the Light, Alausa, Ikeja on Sunday.
Represented by his Deputy Chief of Staff, Sam Egube, Sanwo-Olu highlighted the theme of this year’s celebration, “Rebuilders of Broken Foundations,” taken from Isaiah 58:12, noting its relevance during this challenging time for the nation.
Sanwo-Olu encouraged Nigerians to exercise patience with the current administration and to contribute positively to the healing and renewal of the nation by demonstrating patriotism and compassion for one another.
He emphasised that nation-building is a collective effort, stating, “Government alone cannot rebuild the nation; each individual must take part, fostering unity and cohesion.”
“We should not only focus on our rights but also on our responsibilities, as this is crucial for the comprehensive rebuilding of our nation. Infrastructure fuels economic growth and secures communities,” he asserted.
The Governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing both immediate and long-term needs through transformative programmes in key sectors such as transportation, education, technology, and health, all aimed at driving economic growth in Lagos State.

In his sermon, Bishop Jeremiah Adeyemi of CMAG International Ministry urged Nigerians to remain patient and seek divine intervention for a turnaround as the country undergoes this rebuilding process.
Drawing on the theme, Adeyemi referenced Isaiah 58:12 and Zechariah 1:18, prophesying that God will look favourably upon Nigeria and aid in its reconstruction.
He called on Lagosians and all Nigerians to approach the situation with humility, prayer, and unity, stating, “By this time tomorrow, a shower of blessings shall reign on Nigeria, and our story will change for the better.”
Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ibrahim Layode, also spoke at the service, promising that the state government would ensure citizens enjoy the dividends of democracy through various people-oriented initiatives aligned with the Ministry’s mandate.
The service included intercessory prayers for peace and unity in Nigeria, prayers for the President and his cabinet, as well as for the Governor, his family, and public servants. Attendees prayed for the overall welfare of the nation, including its economy and security.
The event saw participation from members of the State Executive Council, top government officials, party faithful, religious bodies, security agency representatives, and students, all coming together in a spirit of thanksgiving and unity.
