Engr. Derek Izedomwen, African Democratic Congress, ADC, Governorship candidate has described the Saturday governorship election as “A New Dawn for Democracy in Edo State”, congratulating the governor -elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo on his victory and all other candidates who participated in the democratic process.

Engr. Derek Izedomwen who came out fourth in the election made the declaration in a congratulatory message to the governor -elect and all other candidates who participated in the election.

    According to the ADC candidate,
On Sunday, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially announced the results of the September 21st governorship election in Edo State, with the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, declared the winner.

“On behalf of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), I congratulate Senator Okpebholo on his victory and all other candidates who participated in this democratic process.

“We all entered this race with a shared desire for a better Edo State, and while only one person could win, the collective will for progress remains undeterred.

“I also wish to commend the Nigerian Police Force, other security agencies, and the good people of Edo State for ensuring a largely peaceful election. Your commitment to safeguarding our democracy is deeply appreciated.

“However, it would be remiss not to address some concerns. There were widespread reports of vote-buying by the major political parties and allegations of irregularities in certain areas, particularly around the results from Edo North.

“It is important that all claims of irregularities are addressed through lawful and constitutional means. I urge everyone to eschew violence and pursue any grievances through the appropriate legal channels. Democracy thrives when we uphold its principles, including the peaceful resolution of disputes.

“Despite the challenges, our campaign achieved something remarkable. The rank and popularity of our party have no doubt been significantly boosted by our campaign.

“Competing against 17 other parties, we showed that our message of hope, transformation, and progress was heard across the state. Our votes were organic and reflective of a genuine belief in our vision for a better Edo.

“As we reflect on this moment, we know that there is still much work to be done in perfecting our democracy. The ugly cases of vote-buying and the perception of interference from the national government in state elections must be addressed.

“If we are to become a truly great democracy, we must stop the exploitation of poverty during elections and ensure that the people’s will is truly reflected.

“To our incredible team of volunteers, supporters, and donors—thank you. Your commitment has been inspiring. From Iguobazuwa to Auchi, your efforts have left an indelible mark.

“We may not have won this election, but we have struck a blow to the barrier that has kept new voices from being heard in our political space.

This is the beginning of a new era, and I am proud of what we have achieved together.

“We are winners because we have shown what is possible when people come together for a common cause. Let us be proud of what we have achieved, knowing that our voices will only grow louder and stronger in the years to come and I thank you, Edo State, Our journey continues” he declared.
