AKURE – Social Democratic Party(SDP) Ondo State chapter is currently facing a setback 45 days to the off-circle gubernatorial election as the Deputy Governorship candidate of the party, Mrs Susan Gbemisola Alabi resigned from the party and withdrew her candidacy.
In a resignation letter dated October 2, 2024 and addressed to the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, the Deputy Governorship candidate notified the party chairman that she has resigned her membership of the party with immediate effect.
She said her decision was in the best interest to pursue new opportunities and directions.
The resignation reads: “I am writing to formally resign from my membership in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) effective immediately.
“This decision was not made lightly as I have valued my time with the party. However, after careful consideration I believe it is in my best interest to pursue new opportunities and directions.
“Please also note that I have given notice of my resignation as the SDP DEPUTY GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE in the 2024 Governorship election to Otunba BAMIDELE Akingboye (OBA) the SDP GOVERNORSHIP CANDIDATE.

“I want to express my sincere gratitude for the opportunity and for your support during my time in SDP. Thank you for your support and camaraderie during my time with SDP. I wish the party continuous success in its future endeavours.”
In a separate letter to the Governorship candidate of the party, Otunba Bamidele Akingboye (OBA) dated Wednesday October 2, 2024, Mrs. Alabi writes: “In furtherance to the discussion you had with me and the advice you gave me on the morning of Friday 20th September, 2024, I hereby formally resign as the Social Democratic Party Deputy Governorship Candidate for Ondo State in the 2024 governorship election. The resignation takes immediate effect.
“I want to express my gratitude for the opportunity to run alongside with you. Your leadership has been inspiring and I have learnt a lot on this journey.
“As step away, I wish you the very best in your future endeavours. I am confident that you will continue to make a significant impact on our great state.
“After careful consideration and consultations, I have decided to send in my resignation letter. I’d rather do that than go the route you advised saying I’m too sick to continue as your Deputy.
“For the record, please note that I’m not sick and can perform optimally. However, for the sake of your ambition and you concluding to replace me with someone else from the Central of Ondo State as you believe it will better your chances of winning, I hereby formally resign my position with you as your Deputy. Please find below a copy of my resignation letter.
“Thank you for choosing me to be your running mate. I wish you success in the coming elections.”
Meanwhile, the Director General, Bamidele Akingboye Campaign Organization, Femi Ikoyi told newsmen that he not aware of the resignation when contacted.
