An Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos Island, Lagos, Nigeria has sentenced a 24-year-old security man, Simon Toryila to one-year imprisonment without an option of fine for stealing properties valued at N525,000 belonging to his employer, ICON Company located at Broad street, Lagos Island, Lagos.
The convict from Benue State was convicted by Magistrate O.S. Abioye after the convict changed his not guilty plea during the trial and pleaded guilty to the three count charges bordering on breaking, entry and stealing preferred against him by the Police at the Lion Building Division, Lagos Island and the facts of the matter presented before the Court by the Police Counsel, Reuben Solomon.
Police alleged that the journey to jail started for Toryila on 4 April 2022 when he and two others employed as Security men broke and entered into their employer’s office to steal properties valued at N525,000 and fled.
Police said following the incident, the management of ICON Company reported the incident to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Lion Building Division, Lagos Island who swiftly deployed his crack team led by Inspector Nnamdi Majuka to fish out the fleeing suspects.
The Police team tracked Toryila to Benue State, arrested and brought him back to Lagos while others are still at large.
Toryila was charged before the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court sitting at the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court Lagos on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, breaking and stealing.
Police Counsel, Reuben Solomon had told the Court that the convict and two others still at large employed by the complainant to protect lives and properties turned out to be thieves and broke into their employer’s office to steal.
