Senator Garba Musa Maidoki, representing Kebbi South Senatorial District at the Senate, has launched a ‘Students and Youth Educational Empowerment’ program, offering N35,000 scholarships to 1,291 students from the district who are studying in various universities across Nigeria.
The beneficiaries were drawn from the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, Federal University of Agriculture Zuru, Kebbi State University Science and Technology Aliero, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Jos, and Bayero University Kano.
Speaking on the scholarships, Professor Umar Ahmed Sanda, Chairman of the screening and payment committee, explained that, only 100-level students from the specified universities were eligible, selected through verification of their details and original documents.
He disclosed that, the breakdown of beneficiaries includes 291 from FUA Zuru, 141 from UDU Sokoto, 292 from FUBK, 514 from KSUSTA, 14 from BUK, 11 from Uni Jos, and 28 from ABU Zaria.
At the flag-off ceremony held at Federal University of Agriculture Zuru, Professor Sanda urged beneficiaries to utilize the scholarships judiciously and advised parents and guardians to ensure proper fund utilization.
In her remark, Mrs. Chinyere Ezem, Project Supervisor from the National Productivity Centre, Abuja,who attended the ceremony, emphasized on the need for students to always improve on their life endeavours ,especially their studies,and advocated for the proper fund utilization.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Hauwa Abdulkarim and Sirajo Salisu expressed their gratitude to Senator Maidoki and prayed for his success.
