It was a ‘double combo’ last Sunday, when afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, launched his podcast titled, ‘Bird’s Eye View’; and his wife, Yetunde, officially opened her ‘Chef Yeide’s Special Spices’ in Ikeja, Lagos.
The event started with a screening of the first episode of Seun’s show titled, ‘Education for mal-development’.
Speaking about the tone of the first episode, the singer told , “One problem in Nigeria’s educational sector is that many people go through the system, and come out with no sense of self and patriotism. We forget that it is what is put into a person that the person will bring out. It is what they see in society that they copy. You don’t expect young people not to go to clubs.”
On what inspired the podcast, Seun said, “I am trying to give balanced analysis to Africans.
“It is because there are some things I cannot say on radio, but my podcast allows me to say whatever I want to. Also, the format of radio is different from that of a podcast. The first season will be majorly lectures, while the following season will have guests coming in to speak.”
On her part, Seun’s wife, Yetunde also shared her interest in cooking and presented three different spices she created.
She said, “I started cooking when I was 12 years old, and I am so proud of where I am right now. I decided to share because I want people to understand what I mean by ‘eating good food’. It had been on my mind to create my own flavour and have my style. However, it took me a while to be able to balance everything.”
