Seven escape death in Ogun, driver injured in Lagos
No fewer than seven persons escaped death following a multiple crash at the Kere area of Ewekoro Local Government Area of Ogun State on Sunday.
This was just as a lone driver sustained an injury after a crash in the Adeniji Adele area of Lagos State on the same day.
The spokesperson for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, in a telephone conversation with PUNCH Metro on Sunday disclosed that the accident occurred when two vehicles that were driving against traffic collided with a truck.
He identified the vehicles involved as one yellow Howo truck with number plate LAR826XB, a silver Sequoia jeep with number plate KSF760HZ, and a black Honda Accord with number plate AKR568TE.
Akinbiyi further said that the victims escaped unhurt but had their vehicles damaged.
A photograph of the accident obtained by our correspondent showed the vehicles having bodily damages ranging from broken windscreen, damaged bumper, and broken headlights.
He said, “There was a multiple crash at Kere via Obada, Ewekoro Local Government, Inward Abeoukuta on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
“According to eyewitnesses on the ground, Both the Sequa Jeep and the Honda car drove against traffic facing the path of the HOWO truck which suddenly led to a head-on collision.”
In a related incident, one lone driver was rescued by operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority after involving in an accident along the Adeniji Adele area of Lagos State on Sunday.
The LASTMA Director of Public Affairs, Adebayo Taofiq, in a statement on Sunday, disclosed that the driver was immediately taken to the General Hospital by LASAMBUS Officials, with assistance from LASTMA personnel.
He added, “Initial investigations revealed that the driver of a white Suzuki ‘Korope’ (LSR 116 YD) lost control while using a mobile phone, causing the vehicle to collide with a culvert beside the 3rd Mainland Expressway.
“The driver sustained a serious back fracture and injury to his left hand. LASTMA personnel immediately contacted other emergency responders, including Lasambus officials and police officers from the Adeniji Adele Police Station.
“Our team promptly removed the damaged Suzuki from the expressway to ensure smooth traffic flow towards Iyana-Oworo on the Third Mainland Bridge.”
Reacting to the incident, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Sola Giwa, expressed sympathies to the injured driver while emphasising the importance of road safety.
“He urged all motorists, including commercial bus drivers, to avoid using phones while driving and to refrain from speeding within or outside Lagos,” Taofiq said.
