A Kano State Upper Sharia Court, on Thursday, dissolved the 16-year-old marriage of Asiya Ganduje, daughter of  Governor Abdullahi Ganduje.

Asiya had approached the court seeking the dissolution of the marriage with her husband, Inuwa Uba, on the ground that she was tired and fed up with the relationship which produced four children.

The Presiding Judge, Justice Khadi Aliyu, dissolved the marriage while delivering his judgment on the matter.

Aliyu, however, ordered Ganduje’s daughter to return the N50,000 dowry to her husband as cost of damages.

The court also struck out Asiya husband’s demand for documents of properties which he claimed belonged to him.

The counsel for the plaintiff, Ibrahim Nasarawa, said the court gave the judgment based on what was supposed to be the basis of the marriage, which is the dowry.

However, reacting to the judgment, counsel for the husband, Umar I. Umar, said he would study the judgment and await the next line of action from his client on whether or not to approach the Court of Appeal on the matter.

He said they tried all best possible to reconcile the relationship but to no avail.
