The Defence Headquarters has confirmed that a naval officer deployed to Forward Operating Base Dansadau for Operation FANSAN YAMMA allegedly opened fire under questionable circumstances, resulting in the death of a colleague.
In a statement, the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj.-Gen. Edward Buba, reported that the incident occurred early on Friday at around 3:12 a.m. in the Dansadau area of Katsina State.
The Naval officer, identified as Leading Seaman Akila A., has been arrested, disarmed, and detained.

An investigation has commenced, and, according to Buba, the case will proceed to a standing court martial to address the alleged misconduct.
“The administrative process of notifying the deceased’s family is ongoing, which is why the name has not yet been released publicly. It will be disclosed in due course,” he stated.
“We urge the media to exercise caution in their reporting to avoid adding to the family’s distress.” (NAN)
