The Lagos State Government on Wednesday reclaimed possession of the Okunde Bluewater Scheme in Lekki, reigniting a conflict with the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) over control of the site.
The repossession exercise was led by the Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Hon. Ekundayo Alebiosu, alongside the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Physical Planning, Engr. Olumide Sotire.
The duo, accompanied by a combined team of officials, had initially taken over the scheme the previous Wednesday, which had been unlawfully occupied by NIWA and local miscreants.
However, upon receiving a tip-off, the team revisited the site on Wednesday morning, only to find that NIWA had once again seized control of the area.

This prompted a swift response from Lagos State officials, who reclaimed the property for the second time.
This latest development comes as part of a larger effort by the Lagos State Government to assert control over waterfront properties.
Two weeks ago, Alebiosu spearheaded a forceful crackdown on schemes illegally occupied by NIWA and unauthorized individuals.
The standoff between Lagos State and NIWA has escalated, with both parties vying for control of valuable waterfront schemes, highlighting ongoing jurisdictional disputes between the state government and federal agencies.
