The Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU) has distanced itself from the planned national protest on August 1, condemning the motive behind it.

This was announced during a press briefing in Kaduna on Friday.

SOKAPU President Tabara Kato argued that a well-intentioned protest cannot be organized by those who previously claimed that “religion, ethnicity, and tribe forbid protests against leaders.”

Kato stated, “Only people who don’t think embark on a journey to a destination they cannot predict. It is more reasonable and meaningful to remain where we are and manage what we know in order to get what we need. For now, at least there is respite from insecurity with hope for improvement.”

According to Kato, both federal and state governments are operating inclusive policies, which marks a clear departure from past administrations. He emphasized the importance of patience and support for the current Federal and State Governments to succeed.

Kato acknowledged the unpleasant state of the economy but noted that the decay did not start with the present government.

He stated, “Since every government wants to be successful, the Federal Government under President Bola Tinubu and Kaduna State under Gov. Uba Sani are no exception. They need time with our support to succeed in office.”

He declared that SOKAPU stands with the government at both levels and will not participate in any protests in Kaduna State, Nigeria, or abroad.

Kato expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for appointing SOKAPU members to great positions, such as the CDS, Director-General of NYSC, Director-General of Cadastral Mining Zone, and the Minister of Environment.

He also thanked Tinubu for supporting Sen. Sunday Marshall-Katung’s lobby for a Federal University in Southern Kaduna.

“We are looking forward to seeing it become a reality. We are seriously ready and willing to work with anyone desiring to make Kaduna State and Nigeria peaceful and great under my watch as president of SOKAPU,” Kato concluded.
