The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen Christopher Musa, has canvassed for more inter-agency collaboration and synergy among stakeholders to sustain the safe school initiative.
He stated that such cooperation was critical to safety in schools.
Gen Musa, in a remark at a workshop on Safe School Programme for security personnel, held in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, urged personnel to collaborate with the government, education officials and civilians to ensure safety in schools.
“This training is in line with the Federal Government’s Safe School Initiative. Our synergy and collaboration with all stakeholders is critical to the success of the programme and safety of our schools,” he said.
The workshop with the theme, ‘Providing Secured and Safe Learning Environment for the Advancement of National Development,’ is to equip security personnel with the required skills to provide a secure environment for learning.
“The Workshop was established in March 2024 to operationalise the Armed Forces of Nigeria for best options in the protection of our schools, so that our children/students will operate in a safe and secured environment”.
Participants were drawn from the armed forces, including the army, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the police and other security agencies.
Power bikes and communication equipment were also presented to some of the security troops to enhance surveillance and protection of schools.
