Over the past 24hours , a SuperSport team was reportedly involved in a tragic event while traveling to cover an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Libya’s Mediterranean Knights.
According to reports, the seven-member team was abducted on Wednesday while they were traveling from Lagos to Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
One member of the SuperSport production crew was reportedly tragically killed, according to Colin Udoh, a reputable football journalist and former Super Eagles Media Officer, who broke the news on his X page.
On X, a well-known anti-crime activist from South Africa also detailed the incident: “A SuperSport TV crew of seven was ambushed and abducted in Anambra, Nigeria while traveling from Lagos to shoot an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier match in Uyo. While six people were saved, one member of the technical staff was shot and killed.

The group was traveling to Uyo by road. In order to save fuel, the driver reportedly chose to take a shortcut via a well-known hotspot. The crew of seven was ambushed and abducted in Anambra, Nigeria, while traveling from Lagos to Uyo to film an African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.
Six were rescued but one of the technical crew was shot and killed.
One member of the technical staff was shot and died, but the other six were saved. Tochukwu Ikenga, a spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, acknowledged the rescue operations but implied that one journalist was still missing.
“The joint security forces have rescued six members of the media crew who were abducted while travelling from Lagos to Uyo,” Ikenga said. “Operations are still ongoing to rescue the last journalist and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
The Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match between Nigeria and Libya is scheduled to take place on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium Uyo.
