BENIN – Mr Dennis Idahosa, the deputy governorship candidate for the Edo governorship election says the Supreme Court ruling on financial autonomy to Local Government Areas in the country only reaffirmed the campaign promise of the All Progressives Congress.
Idahosa who commended the judgement, said the people at grassroot level will not be able to feel the impact of governance.
Idahosa who represents the Ovia federal constituency at the National Assembly, stated this in a press statement by his media aide, Friday Aghedo.

The APC deputy governorship candidate said their stand on council autonomy was merely a conditional matter and the need to spread development across the State.
“We have always had vibrant councils that cater for the needs of the people at that level of government which made it possible for a limited rural-urban migration.

“Let me be particular about my State which is Edo, things got so bad within the last seven years that local governments find it difficult to maintain earth roads, markets and other responsibilities of councils.
“It was this appalling situation we intended to change that made the issue of ensuring local government autonomy as part of our campaign promises.
“We are indeed grateful and highly commend the judgement made earlier today (Thursday) by the Supreme Court to reaffirm our position on the matter,” he stated.
It would be recalled that the seven Justices panel of the Supreme Court had granted financial autonomy to the 774 councils areas in the country.
The apex Court also asked the Federal Court to withhold the allocation of any council that is being run by the caretaker committee or sole administrator.
