LAGOS – A 23-year-old man, Ahmed Oyekola, accused of murdering his grandfather and uncle in Ibadan earlier this week, appeared in court at Chief Magistrates Court 8, Iyaganku, Ibadan, on Thursday, September 12, facing a single charge of murder.
The accused supposedly admitted to the murder of his grandfather and uncle, expressing confusion over the malevolent force that drove him to commit such acts.
He reportedly shared that he entered his grandfather’s room, searching for items, and when the elderly man inquired about his presence as he couldn’t see him, the accused provided additional specifics.
“He assumed his grandfather was asleep. Upon realizing he was discovered, he grabbed a pillow and used it to smother Pa Oyekola, causing his immediate death.

“When his uncle, located in another room, heard the disturbance and attempted to investigate, Ahmed swiftly attacked him with a power bank, causing injuries to his lips and chin.
“He ensured his uncle’s demise as well, then departed the residence with a small box containing the stolen Jalamiyah and Ankara fabrics from his grandfather’s room.”
Mrs. I.O. Osho, the Chief Magistrate, directed the accused to be held in Agodi prisons until receiving legal guidance from the Director of Public Prosecution.
The trial was postponed and is set to reconvene on November 12, 2024.
