The Nigerian Bar Association, Epe Branch, on Monday, visited the Nigeria Police Force (Ajiwe Divisional Headquarters) in Ajah, Lagos over the killing of one of its members, Omobolanle Raheem by a police officer.

The NBA which was represented by its Secretary, Aare Oladotun Hassan, condemned the killing by the police officer, who was believed to be arrogantly trigger-happy under suspicious circumstances.

Meanwhile, the suspect and his accomplices have been moved to FCID in Panti, Yaba for an Orderly Room trial.

Hassan in a statement affirmed the need for Police and other uniformed men to exercise extra caution.

He also emphasized the need for continuous high-level training on human and public relations on how law enforcement agents relate with the general public.

While reiterating the position of the NBA and its resolution in ensuring adequate justice, he said due diligence must be followed in the prosecution of the principal suspect in consonance with the directive of the NBA national leadership.

He said, “However, the suspect and his co-accomplices have been moved for proper investigation on the remote cause of the murder via orderly room trial at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Panti, Yaba, Lagos, while the Commissioner of Police has made a frantic appeal to lawyers and the general public to maintain peace, as the proper investigation is ongoing.”

The NBA Secretary used the opportunity to reaffirm his earlier proposition advisory on the need to have a Lawyers and Police Relation Committee, while each Divisional Headquarters should have a functional legal desk, wherein members of the NBA could serve as support staff regulated, maintained and managed by the Lagos State Ministry of Justice

as a panacea model towards building mutual interest and maintaining standard professional legal practice.
