IBADAN: Chairman of the Odu’a International Trade Fair 2024, Chief Kola Akosile, has said the fair, scheduled from October 22 to 29, 2024 will showcase the South-west’s economic potential and attract investment that will boost the region’s economy.
Speaking in Ibadan, the Capital City of Oyo State during a press conference, Akosile underscored the importance of regional collaboration at the fair.
Akosile said the State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde will officially open the event, themed: “Harnessing The Food Security Systems and Other Resources for Sustainable Development and Wealth Creation,”
He emphasised that the fair will provide local businesses with valuable opportunities to connect with international markets, enhancing the region’s visibility on the global stage.
He further disclosed the trade fair will feature a farmers market, aimed at addressing food security and providing affordable produce to the community just as he expressed the significance of the fair in addressing regional challenges.
“We thought it wise to organise this event to showcase the vast potential in the South West,” he stated.

He noted that the trade fair is not just an exhibition, but a platform for unity among the six Southwest states.
He disclosed that participants from international companies, including representatives from Japanese companies and various Federal Ministries will be witnessing the event.
“By operating as a single entity, we can better attract investors in commerce, trade, and agriculture, ultimately driving economic growth for the region.”
“Over 100 exhibitors are expected to participate, offering a diverse array of products and services.” He said.
In his remarks, Commissioner for Trade, Industry, Investment, and Cooperatives in the state, Mr. Segun Olayiwola, reiterated the collaborative efforts between his ministry and the Odu’a Chamber of Commerce.
Olayiwola, represented by Mrs. Modupe Adesina, a director in the ministry, mentioned that the trade fair would also serve as a preparatory platform for another major international trade fair scheduled for next year.
Olayiwola highlighted the fair’s potential to not only boost local economies but also to strengthen ties with international stakeholders.
