Daredevil terrorists have killed the Administrative Secretary of Malumfashi Local Government Area (LAG)in Katsina State, Ibrahim Aliyu.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday at 8.15 pm, happened after the terrorists surrounded a mosque where the deceased and other Muslim faithful were praying.
A source from the area said the terrorists had earlier gone to the residence of the deceased without meeting him and had made inquiries from his family members where he was.
He said the family members didn’t give the terrorists a satisfactory answer about late Aliyu’s whereabouts.
He said the terrorists then left Aliyu’s house and headed straight to the mosque as it was time for evening prayers, and that they waited till the deceased had come out of the mosque before they apprehended and shot him dead.
He said the deceased had been amongst those in the forefront working for the peace and stability of the council, which had been adversely affected by attacks by terrorists in recent times.
He said the terrorists’ actions, which he described as an assassination, may not be unconnected with some of the deceased’s efforts at tackling insecurity in the area.
The source said the deceased has since been buried according to Islamic rights, while several public officeholders within and outside the council had visited his residence to express their sympathies.
The spokesperson for the police command in the state, ASP Abubakar Aliyu, was yet to respond to an inquiry on the matter as of the time of report.
