The present economic challenges befalling the nation is not peculiar to Nigeria, the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin has said.
Speaking in Kano on Sunday, at the flag off of the Federal government palliatives to the needy in the North West geo- political zone, Barau emphasized that the trying times is unfortunately happening in many countries of the world today.
He explained that the Tinubu administration; upon assumption in ofgice met these economic challenges and has been unrelenting in addressing the problems with a view to bringing succour to all.
According to him, the Ukariane and Russian war, and the Israel and Gaza conflict sll caused increases in the prices of energy, which resulted in inflationary trends and rises in the cost of food items across the globe
He explained that it was for this reason that President Tinubu decided to extend different palliatives of food items to Nigerians, especially the needy with a view to mitigate the challenges they faced.
Barau , who is the Chairmen of the Presidential Paalative Distribution Committee, regretted however that previous distribution approaches were not very impressive resulting in the establishment of their own committee with the assignment to ensure a fair and equitable distribution to the beneficiaries.
He expressed commitment to ensure thst the palliatives get down to the intended beneficiaries adding that they had already set up similar sub- committees at the local level to ensure that the palliatives reach the people of the region.
He thanked the President for his kindness and compassion to Nigerians and urged Nigerians and the people of Kano state to support the President.
He explained that what is needed to overcome the present challenges is for Nigerians to come together anf forge ahead instead of making capital of the situation.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari disclosed that a total of 19.3 trucks load of rice palliatives would be distributed to beneficiaries in Kano state.
He recalled that the Federal Government had previously extended a total of 124000 bags of assorted food items comprising of rice, naize and mlets to the state .
